About John Kent McCoy
Hello, I'm John Kent the youngest of Ivy and Addie's four children and was born in Baton Rouge on Februrary 16,1940. I attended Sacred Heart and Catholic High Schools and graduated from LS.U in Baton Rouge in 1963 with a B.S. degree in Landscape Architecture. After a stint in the U.S. Army Reserve I went to work in Cleveland, Ohio as a park planner for the Cleveland Metropolitan Park System

I met, courted and married Dianne Faulkner while in Cleveland in 1967 and had the first of two daughters, Jennifer Leigh in 1970.  After five years with Metro and a couple of years in private practice I left Cleveland for a job  in Canberra, Australia as Principal Landscape Architect for the National Capital Development Corporation (NCDC) which today is known as the  National Capital Authority (NCA). My job, as their first landscape architect, was to form a division of landscape architecture for NCDC to provide landscape planning input for the five emerging satellite cities in the region that would eventually shape a greatly expanded national capital for Australia.  Diana became active as a violinist for the Canberra Symphony  Orchestra and tutored students in mathematics, which she had been teaching in Cleveland when we first met. Our second daughter, Laura Beth, was born in Canberra in 1977. Both Laura and Jennifer now live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jennifer teaches high school art and Laura is a landscape architect with her own landscape design firm.

I returned to the United States in 1980 and began work as Chief of Design for Sinclair Inc, one of south Florida's largest design construct landscape companies at that time.  While at Sinclair I designed and installed millions of dollars worth of landscaping  in both Miami and Palm Beach, for luxury hotels, resort developments and several major corporate headquarters (IBM, Canter Foods, and more).

I left south Florida in 1990 and opened a design office on St. George Island, Fla and am there today working primarily with land developers and local government designing parks, and resort communities. My longtime soul mate, Jeannine Law, and I spend our spare time taking bridge cruises and reading new books and publications of interest to us.   You can see more about me at my website www.kentmccoy.info
